N-Orbit revisted

there's been a buzz in my little internet world lately. it all started earlier in the week when chad minton and greg the mayor got the crazy idea to have reunion party for N-Orbit. unless you lived and skated around here before 1992 you probably have no idea what i'm talking about. N-Orbit was a skateshop/outdoor skatepark located in greenwood just south of the mall on fry road (the OG shop was on main street in greenwood). they had a street course out front that you never had to pay to skate. it was fresh smooth asphalt. there were ollie bumps, a flat bar, and probably the first bank to jersey barrier ever made. inside the fence was a 4 and 6 foot mini and a huge vert ramp. the only covered ramp was a 2' tall 8' wide "dork ramp" that was under the awning. pretty simple set up, but that was standard in those days. looking back, it's about as romantic as any skateboard memories are for me. the boards that lined the walls are ones that collectors would kill for today. it was when i fanned out on visiting pros and nervously asked them for an zine interview. it was a time of skateboarding innocence, oblivious to the inner workings and dynamics of the industry, friendships, egos, drama and anything else that taints us. jim and bruce were 100% skateboarding with out knowing or even claiming it. it's been fun to revisit these memories and images. here are just a few.

my friend loaned me a VHS tape converter so i've been going to town. this is footage from a trip that a bunch of us took in the spring of 1999. we basically did a loop around the country with sometimes 12 people in a ford aerostar mini van. the nude bowl was one of our destination stops. our plan was to camp out at the bowl. after being up there for an hour or so, a desert rat/tweaker/psycho showed up. in footage @1:30 you can see him leaned over the coping. he had prison release papers and was talking about weird stuff like what a human head looks like when it explodes. it was so creepy that we decided not to camp.

My friend Scott bought a bar a few months ago in Fishers. Friday they had a wresting event to benefit the state fair accident victims. Some of the wrestlers were WWE stars like Billy Gunn, Eugene, Kevin Thorn, and Ariel. I was able to get behind the barricade and take photos.

played tour guide for friends from louisville yesterday. it's been a while since i did that.

*the first time i met matt ballard was years ago in cincnnatti. i was shooting photos with bobby rodriguez AKA bob gnar of Natural Koncept fame and ballard was with him to film. bobby was trying to inward-heel the big 4 stack on campus. cops showed up a few minutes into it. while they were checking our IDs bobby took off running, leaving matt and i with the cops. we had no idea why he ran, but it's never cool to leave your homies in a situation like that. they never caught bobby and finally let us go after a long stressful 45 minutes. reguardless, ballard keeps it real on the midwest filming front. check out his vimeo page. matt ballard

i've taken this band for granted over the last few years. i haven't keep up with recent releases and have blown them off when they've played close. hell, if i had the foresight,i could have stood next to members of slayer while watching them last year in fort wayne. last night i went to see them for the first time in years. i was almost falling asleep waiting for them to start, as it was well past midnight on a weeknight. i decided to peek around the corner to see how close they were. right when i caught sight of the stage the first note was struck. i spent the next hour or so completely engulfed in their performance which could be described as a mesh of drone, improve, and chaotic structure. last night jucifer separated themselves from alot on bands in my mind.

HELP! find this girl a home

last weekend someone dumped this dog on our corner. she was very scared and anxious when we found her. she didn't have tags, only an old leather belt for a collar. we kept her overnight and by the next morning she had calmed down and her personality began to shine. that same day a friend of our's took her home and has been caring for her since. neither us or our friend are in the position to keep her permanently. she has been to the vet once and will be returning to get her shots and to be fixed. she is around 60 pounds and is 1 1/2-2 years old. she is well behaved and potty trained. she has been with another bigger dog all week and they get along great. she shows no sign of having food aggression issues(or any aggression for that matter). she has been given a few baths and does just fine. she is basically a big sweetheart who needs a forever home. if you would like to meet her, please email me at hutchcandoit@gmail.com
