i've seen alot of good bands in the last few weeks. last night was slayer (thanks to andy for the tickets). as with every other time i've seen them, they brought it. they played a "greatest hits" set. aside from playing "Psychopathy Red", they are still keeping the new album under lock and key. that's fine with me, i just want hear the old shit. "he's old as shit!" that's that what the guy next to us yells about Tom Aryaya when we caught the first glimpse of him. the guy is right, Araya is pushing 50. He leaves the blood wrenching scream at the beginning of "angle of death" for the crowd to handle. man, i would love to have a time machine for shit like that.
holly, my dumpster diving, motorcycle riding realtor, let me in on a gold mine of a dumpster. it was like an antique store in there. other than what is in the photos, i found a stihlweed eater (that works great), an antique wood bench, and some other crap.
"hutch" boxing glove: doesn't get any better.
red baron hot wheel from 1969.
set of 8 roller skate wheels. still in the bag with receipt dated november of 1980.
i've always been curious about the band sunn O))). in the past, it's been difficult for me to listen to their albums. however, i was always attracted to their mystique and imagery. i finally had a chance to see them live last night. while i still might not 100% "get it", i did walk away with a better understanding. their whole thing is open to interpretation. not to sound cliche', but it is the closest thing to "art" as i have ever seen from a band. yes, they are playing traditional instruments plugged in to amps, but that is really the only reference point i can give you. their live set completely engulfs you physically and emotionally.
